I just got an RTX 3060 but my old 60Hz monitor is holding me back. I need something affordable to finally enjoy high frame rates.

I'm specifically looking for:

  • 144Hz+ refresh rate
  • IPS panel
  • Under $180 price point

What's the best budget 1080p monitor you'd recommend for this setup?

Quickly jumping in, i learned to check power stability after a cheap monitor fried its own board. The ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q1A 23.8 inch 165Hz IPS has better internal circuitry for long-term reliability imo.

tbh for the price, the AOC 24G2SP 24 inch 165Hz IPS is a top-tier choice because it uses a high-quality panel with excellent sRGB coverage. If thats out of stock, the MSI G2412 24 inch 170Hz IPS is another solid option with a slightly higher refresh rate. Both handle motion blur way better than older budget IPS displays, so your 3060 will actually look smooth.

Honestly, if you want the best performance for that RTX 3060 without breaking the bank, you need to look at the actual panel performance, not just the marketing on the box. I have spent way too much time looking at motion blur and color gamut charts for these budget panels, and the differences are actually pretty huge. In my experience, the Gigabyte G24F 2 24 inch 1080p 180Hz OC IPS is currently the king of this price bracket. It covers about 95% of the DCI-P3 color space which is honestly insane for under $180. The 1ms response time is actually decent here and doesn't suffer from the massive overshoot you see on cheaper VA panels. Another solid pick that I have personally recommended to friends is the AOC 24G2SP 23.8 inch 1080p 165Hz IPS because it uses a newer panel that hits 165Hz natively with surprisingly good contrast ratios for an IPS display. Quick technical tips for your setup:

  • Never use the Fastest or Extreme overdrive setting on these budget monitors. It almost always causes inverse ghosting that looks like a blurry mess. Stick to the middle or Medium setting for the best balance.
  • Make sure to enable G-Sync Compatible mode in your Nvidia control panel immediately. Even though these are Freesync monitors, they work perfectly with your 3060 over DisplayPort to prevent screen tearing without the input lag of traditional V-Sync. Both of these fit well within your budget and will make your 3060 feel like a completely different GPU compared to that old 60Hz office screen.
