Panel lottery concerns with the 24G2 were legit back in the day, but that model is basically legacy hardware now. Since you need something by the weekend for a LAN under $160, I suggest checking out the AOC 24G4 23.8 inch 1080p 180Hz Fast IPS. It solves most of the ghosting issues found in older budget displays and wont break your $160 limit. Technical breakdown for your RTX 4060 setup:

  • Panel Tech: Fast IPS offers 1ms GtG response times which is crucial for competitive play without the washed-out colors of TN.
  • Refresh Rate: 180Hz matches the 4060 output perfectly in titles like Valorant or Counter-Strike.
  • VRR Support: These units are G-Sync compatible via DisplayPort, preventing screen tearing during frame fluctuations.
  • Contrast: You get about 1000:1 contrast ratio which is standard but effective for most gaming environments.

I'm happy with ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q1A 23.8 inch 165Hz IPS since motion clarity is solid. Gigabyte G24F 2 23.8 inch 180Hz SS IPS has superior color gamut tho, no complaints there.

Like someone mentioned, those AOC panels can be hit or miss depending on the batch. I actually grabbed an MSI G244F 23.8 inch 170Hz Rapid IPS for a guest build recently and was surprised by the color pop. Comparing brands at this price point:

Late to the party but I gotta chime in because I went through this exact same headache last month when I was building a secondary rig for my brother! I literally spent hours comparing response time charts and subpixel layouts until my eyes hurt lol. I ended up testing the Acer Nitro XV240Y M3 23.8 inch 180Hz IPS against the ViewSonic OMNI VX2428 24 inch 180Hz Fast IPS side-by-side. Honestly, the ViewSonic blew me away with its color accuracy right out of the box! Most budget IPS panels have that gross yellow tint, but this thing was amazing.

  • Acer stands are usually superior since they actually tilt and pivot, which is great for LAN setups where desk height is always a total gamble.
  • ViewSonic is fantastic because of the triple input setup, so I could swap between my PC and a console without constantly unplugging stuff.
  • Both these options stay under your $160 cap, usually sitting around $130 to $145 at most retailers. I'm telling you, that ViewSonic is a total sleeper pick for a 4060 build... the motion clarity at 180Hz is just pure butter!
