Hey everyone! I finally managed to snag an Xbox Series X, but I’m still playing on an old 1080p office monitor and it’s definitely time for an upgrade. I really want to take full advantage of the console’s power, specifically looking for something that handles 4K at 120Hz smoothly. I know I need HDMI 2.1 for that, but I’m stuck between choosing a 27-inch or a 32-inch panel. Also, is HDR actually worth the premium, or should I just focus on response times for competitive shooters? I’ve seen a few LG and Samsung models, but the options are honestly a bit overwhelming. What specific monitors are you guys using that really make the Series X shine?

Curious about one thing: whats your typical viewing distance and desk setup like? 27-inch is sweet for shooters, but 32-inch is basically REQUIRED to actually see that 4K detail comfortably, imo.

Seconding the recommendation above about the 32-inch size! Ok so, in my experience, if youre gonna drop the cash for 4K, you gotta go bigger or youll basically miss the detail. I've tried many setups over the years and honestly, cheaping out on HDR is a mistake if you want that "next-gen" feel.
Here's how I see the options for a Series X budget:
* **The Value King:** Gigabyte M32U 32-inch 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor - This is the best bang-for-buck imo. It's got HDMI 2.1 and works great, tho the HDR is just okay.
* **The High-End Choice:** LG 32GQ950-B 32-inch UltraGear UHD 4K Nano IPS - Way better brightness and colors, but seriously expensive.
* **The Competitive Pick:** Samsung 28-inch Odyssey G70A 4K UHD 144Hz - If you insist on a smaller desk footprint, this one is solid for shooters.
I'd probably lean toward the Gigabyte for a more conservative budget, but just be careful with cable quality... use the one that came with the Xbox!! Good luck 👍

Ok so, before you pull the trigger, you gotta think about panel safety and longevity. Honestly, high-end 4K monitors get seriously hot when pushing 120Hz! I've had a few cheaper units basically fry their internal boards because the cooling was trash. Definitely look for a brand with a solid 3-year warranty and good thermal venting on the back. For your Xbox, I highkey recommend a 32-inch screen because it makes spotting enemies way easier without straining your eyes!!

Sooo, to really get why HDMI 2.1 and 4K matter, you gotta understand that the Series X is basically a high-end PC in a box. In my experience, if you don't have that bandwidth, you're literally leaving performance on the table. Honestly, I've spent years testing different setups and I was kinda disappointed when I first tried HDR on mid-range screens—it looked washed out and wierd. If you want it to actually look good, you need a high peak brightness, otherwise it's just not as good as expected and you should just focus on response times for shooters instead.
For your situation, I would suggest going with LG. Seriously, you cant go wrong with their OLED tech for the Series X, it makes the blacks look incredible. Samsung is also a solid bet if you want something brighter for a sunny room. I personally found 32 inches is the sweet spot for 4K cuz 27 is a bit small to see the detail, but yeah... just grab any high-end gaming model from those two and you'll be set. gl!

Ok so, i saw this earlier and wanted to jump in cuz i literally just went through the same hunt for my own Series X setup! For your situation, i definitely think you should look at how the different brands handle HDMI 2.1 because it's not just about the specs on paper, it's about how the software actually works with the console. Basically, the big brands like LG and Gigabyte have really been fighting for this market, and each has a different vibe.
In my experience, here is what i recommend after doing a ton of research:
- If you want the absolute best colors, look at LG 27GP950-B 27 inch Ultragear UHD Nano IPS Gaming Monitor. I'm so happy with how the Nano IPS looks, even if it's not full OLED. It’s 4K and handles 144Hz (overclockable) so the 120Hz on Xbox is like, buttery smooth. Honestly, the HDR is okay, but don't expect it to look like a $2k TV.
- For a bigger 32-inch screen that really feels immersive, i've heard amazing things about the Gigabyte M32U 32 inch 4K UHD 144Hz Gaming Monitor. It's highkey one of the best values right now because it has a KVM switch too if you ever plug in a laptop for work.
- If you're worried about the Samsung models you mentioned, maybe check out the Samsung 28 inch Odyssey G70A 4K UHD LED Gaming Monitor. It's a bit smaller but really solid for shooters.
Is HDR worth it? Idk, tbh most mid-range monitors don't get bright enough to make HDR truly "pop" like a high-end TV does. If you're playing competitive shooters, focus on that 1ms response time first! It basically makes everything feel way more responsive. Good luck with the upgrade!! 👍
