I finally managed to get my hands on a PS5, but I’m still rocking an old 1080p office monitor, and it definitely feels like I'm missing out on the full experience. I’ve been doing some research, but honestly, the sheer amount of technical jargon is getting a bit overwhelming. I know I want a 4K resolution to see all those crisp details in games like Horizon Forbidden West and Spider-Man 2, but I’m torn on the specific features I actually need.
Since the PS5 supports HDMI 2.1, I’m really looking for something that can handle 4K at 120Hz. I’ve heard that Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is a total game-changer for keeping gameplay smooth, so that’s high on my priority list too. I’m mainly looking at the 27 to 32-inch range—anything bigger might be a bit much for my desk setup. I’ve looked at the LG UltraGear series and some of the Samsung Odyssey models, but I’m worried about issues like backlight bleed or poor HDR performance, which seems to be a common complaint with mid-range monitors.
My budget is around $600-$800, though I could stretch it a bit for a display that will last me for years. Does anyone have a specific model they swear by for console gaming? Specifically, which 4K monitor currently offers the best balance of HDR quality and low input lag for the PS5?

Adding my two cents! Honestly, you dont need to spend $800. I love the Gigabyte M28U 28-inch 4K UHD Gaming Monitor cuz it's super reliable and way cheaper, usually around $450. NGL, just be careful with the cables—use the one in the box to keep the signal safe and stable for VRR. It’s basically the best value for PS5 right now, you know? gl!

In my experience, finding a 4K display that actually handles HDR well under $800 is a total nightmare. I’ve tested so many setups over the years and most "HDR" claims are basically marketing fluff.
1. **IPS Displays:** These are great for response times and color accuracy. But honestly?? The backlight bleed is a joke. If u play in a dark room, those deep space scenes look grey and washed out.
2. **VA Panels:** Better contrast for sure, but unfortunately I’ve had issues with motion smearing. It makes that 120Hz smoothness feel kinda wasted imo.
3. **Mini-LED Tech:** This is the industry standard for a reason. It's the only way to get real HDR performance without that annoying glow around bright objects.
Honestly, most mid-range stuff is just not as good as expected. If u want to avoid the headache, just get any Sony or LG screen specifically marketed for the console. Sony usually optimizes their displays for Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which is a total game-changer for ur PS5 setup. gl!!
