Hey everyone! I’ve been grinding Valorant pretty heavily lately, but I’ve finally hit a wall where I feel like my old 60Hz office monitor is genuinely holding me back. During fast-paced executes or when I'm trying to hold a tight angle, the motion blur and screen tearing are making it really difficult to land those crisp headshots. I’m looking to upgrade to a 144Hz display, but since I'm on a tight budget, I can't really afford the high-end Zowie or Odyssey models.
I’m specifically looking for something under $200 that handles motion well. I’ve been researching the AOC 24G2 and some of the ASUS TUF series, but I’m getting a bit overwhelmed by the technical specs. For a game like Valorant, should I be prioritizing an IPS panel for better colors, or is a TN panel still the way to go for the fastest response times? Also, does anyone have experience with how these budget screens handle ghosting when flicking quickly? I really need something with low input lag so my peeks actually feel snappy.
If you're currently using a budget-friendly high-refresh monitor for competitive shooters, what is the best 144Hz gaming monitor you’d recommend that offers the smoothest performance for Valorant without breaking the bank?

Ok so, moving from 60Hz to 144Hz is literally the best thing you can do for ur rank. Basically, the higher refresh rate reduces the delay between what the server sees and what you see. In a game like Val where every millisecond counts, that's huge. Honestly, I think the IPS vs TN debate is kinda over for budget builds. Modern IPS panels are plenty fast now and the colors are way better.
I've been using the AOC 24G2 24" Frameless Gaming Monitor and it works well with no complaints. The motion clarity is sharp and I havent noticed any annoying ghosting during flicks. Another safe, conservative pick is the ASUS TUF Gaming VG249Q 23.8” Monitor. Just a heads up—dont use the highest overdrive setting cuz it can cause "overshoot" which looks like weird glowy trails. Keep it on medium and you'll be happy. GL!

This^ Also wanted to add that I totally agree with the point about overdrive settings... it's literally a game changer!! Ngl, back when I first upgraded from 60Hz, I bought a super cheap off-brand panel and ended up with insane eye strain cuz the pulse width modulation flicker was terrible. Safety first, right?? You really want something that wont hurt ur eyes during those long Valorant grinds.
I'd seriously suggest looking at the ViewSonic OMNI VX2428 24-inch 165Hz Fast IPS Display. It’s amazing because:

Just catching up on this thread and honestly... moving to 144Hz is the single biggest upgrade ur gonna make for tactical shooters. Before u buy anything, u gotta understand that "1ms response time" on the box is usually marketing fluff. Real-world motion clarity depends on how well the overdrive is tuned to prevent ghosting when ur flicking.
Check out **RTINGS.com** or **Hardware Unboxed** for their detailed motion blur and strobe crosstalk tests. They do actual lab testing that cuts through the BS and shows how these screens actually perform during fast movement.
I would suggest looking at the LG 24GN650-B 24" UltraGear FHD IPS Gaming Monitor. I've tested a few budget screens over the years and LG's IPS panels tend to have way more consistent motion than cheap TNs these days. It stays well under ur $200 budget and the colors are actually decent too. Just make sure to enable the 'Fast' response time setting for the best balance!! gl with the grind.

For ur situation, I suggest the Acer Nitro XV240Y M3 23.8" 180Hz Gaming Monitor. Ngl, budget AOC and ASUS panels have disappointed me lately; they aren't as good as expected.

tbh i just got the Gigabyte G24F 2 23.8" 165Hz Gaming Monitor for $140 and it’s basically perfect. The SS IPS panel makes motion so clear, no more blurry headshots in val lol

Adding my two cents, I'd probably go with the LG Ultragear 24GN650-B 24-inch 144Hz IPS because the stand is way sturdier than the cheaper ones. If you buy something too flimsy, you'll regret it in a year when it starts tilting or wobbling during a clutch. Honestly though, once I got my high refresh screen, I ended up spending way too much money on a new mechanical keyboard because the old office one felt too slow. Then I had to get a bigger mousepad, and now I'm looking at ergonomic footrests... it basically never ends once you start 'optimizing' your setup. I spent like three hours yesterday just researching cable sleeves to hide the mess under my desk, which is ridiculous because I dont even see the cables when I'm playing. But yeah, sticking to a reliable brand like LG is usually safer for the long run if you want to save money over time.
