Hey everyone! With the RTX 5070 officially on the horizon, I’ve decided it’s finally time to retire my aging 1080p setup and move up to 1440p. I’ve been rocking an RTX 2060 for years, so this is going to be a massive jump for me. I want to make sure I don’t bottleneck such a powerful new GPU with a subpar display, but I’m honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available right now.

I’m looking for that perfect 'sweet spot' monitor. I mainly play a mix of fast-paced competitive shooters like Apex Legends and immersive, eye-candy titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or the upcoming GTA VI. Because of that, I’m really torn on which direction to go. I’ve been looking at some of the newer 1440p OLED panels because the contrast and response times look absolutely insane, but I’m also a little worried about burn-in since I plan on using this monitor for work during the day as well. On the other hand, a high-end Fast IPS panel seems like the safer, more reliable choice, but will I be missing out on that 'next-gen' feel?

In terms of specs, I’m definitely aiming for at least a 165Hz or 240Hz refresh rate to keep things buttery smooth. I also want something with solid G-Sync compatibility and decent HDR performance, as I’ve heard the 50-series cards are going to handle ray tracing and high-fidelity visuals much better than previous generations. My budget is sitting somewhere between $400 and $650, though I could stretch it a bit for something that’s truly worth the investment.

I’ve been eyeing the latest LG UltraGear and ASUS ROG models, but I can’t decide if I should prioritize a higher refresh rate or better color accuracy and HDR. If you were building a fresh setup around an RTX 5070 today, which specific 1440p monitor would you choose to get the absolute best experience out of the card?

Yo! Adding my two cents here... Honestly, if youre using this for work 8 hours a day, definately stay AWAY from OLED. I've seen too many people regret it cuz of the static UI elements burning in. Since you want that "next-gen" HDR feel without the anxiety, check out some Mini-LED options instead. Check out the reviews on RTINGS—they have a specific "Burn-in Longevity" tool that's super helpful for seeing how panels actually hold up over years. It's a great resource for safety-first buyers. For your budget, I'm super happy with the AOC Q27G3XMN 27" Mini-LED Gaming Monitor. It's got those deep blacks and crazy peak brightness that makes Cyberpunk look *insane*, but it's Mini-LED so zero burn-in risk. If you want faster motion for Apex, the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQMR 27" 1440P 300Hz Gaming Monitor is probably the safest high-end IPS bet. It's fast, reliable, and 300Hz is buttery smooth. Basically, dont gamble your $600 on a panel that might die in two years lol. Gl!

yo, just found this thread. Honestly, i've had issues with OLED burn-in doing work stuff all day, and it's super disappointing for the price. i mean, sticking with IPS is basically the safest bet. check out the LG 27GR83B-B 27-inch UltraGear QHD 240Hz Fast IPS. it's usually around $450 and hits that 240Hz sweet spot for Apex without the anxiety. it's not perfect HDR but works great tho. gl!

> I’m honestly feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available right now. For your situation, honestly that jump from a 2060 is gonna be MASSIVE!! if youre using it for work too, i think sticking with a high-end Fast IPS from ASUS ROG is the way to go. OLED has the 0.03ms response but i actually worry about burn-in with static windows. basically any newer ROG 240Hz G-Sync display will feel like literal magic with that 5070... seriously, just get an IPS and dont look back! gl!

> I’m looking for that perfect 'sweet spot' monitor. I mainly play a mix of fast-paced competitive shooters like Apex Legends and immersive, eye-candy titles like Cyberpunk 2077... Sooo I went through this last year when I upgraded. After a decade of chasing the best tech, I realized the "next-gen" feel really boils down to dimming zones and contrast, but static work UI is a total killer for OLEDs. Ngl, I tried the OLED route and the text clarity was just... nah, it didnt work for my office tasks. I ended up switching to Mini-LED because it’s basically the only way to get that HDR pop without the burn-in anxiety. I've been using the Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q 27" 165Hz QHD Mini-LED and honestly, it’s been incredible for Cyberpunk. Comparing brands over the years, I've noticed the Alienware line, specifically the Dell Alienware AW2723DF 27" 280Hz Gaming Monitor, has way better QC than other brands. Finding that middle ground was key for my 1440p journey. 👍
