I have been saving up for literally over a year to finally build a high end rig and I finally managed to secure a 5070 Ti for my build but now I am staring at my old 24 inch 1080p acer monitor and I know it is going to look like total garbage with such a powerful card. I really want to move up to 1440p because 4K is just way too expensive if I want high refresh rates and honestly I dont think my desk in my flat is even big enough for a massive 32 inch screen anyway. I have about 500 pounds left in my budget specifically for the display and I need to buy something in the next two weeks before the new Monster Hunter comes out so I can actually enjoy the graphics.

I spent all last night looking at reviews and I am honestly more confused now than when I started. I saw a lot of people recommending the LG 27GR83B because it has that 240hz refresh rate which sounds amazing for when I play Valorant but then I read a bunch of threads saying the contrast is total trash and the blacks look grey and that I should just save for an OLED like the Dell AW2725DF. But that Dell is way over my budget and I also use my PC for uni work like five or six hours a day so I am totally terrified of the burn in thing everyone talks about. Is OLED even worth the constant anxiety if I am doing a lot of static text stuff and essays?

Then there is the whole HDR thing... some people say HDR400 is fake and totally pointless but then others say you need a good peak brightness for the 50 series cards to really shine. I just want something that makes the colors pop in single player games like Cyberpunk or Elden Ring but still feels snappy for shooters. Should I just stick with a high end IPS panel or is there some middle ground I am missing? I feel like I am gonna make the wrong choice and regret it for the next five years. Does the 5070 Ti even need 240hz at 1440p or should I prioritize the color quality over the raw speed...

Like someone mentioned, doing uni work on OLED is basically asking for trouble lol. I spent forever analyzing 98 percent DCI-P3 coverage and delta E values before finally deciding! I went with the MSI MAG 274QRF-QD E2 27 inch 1440p 180Hz Rapid IPS because the Quantum Dot film makes colors pop like crazy. It makes single-player games look fantastic without burn-in anxiety!!

Unfortunately, most mid-range IPS panels have pathetic contrast. Like someone mentioned, OLED is risky for uni work. Check RTINGS for their Real Scene Brightness data before buying.

Finally someone says it. Ive been thinking this for a while but wasnt sure.

honestly im really satisfied with the LG 27GR83B-B 27 inch 1440p 240Hz IPS. the 10-bit color works well for uni and that 240Hz refresh rate is perfect for shooters.

> I am totally terrified of the burn in thing everyone talks about. Is OLED even worth the constant anxiety if I am doing a lot of static text stuff and essays? Adding my two cents here because I have been through a dozen panels over the years and honestly, if you are doing six hours of uni work a day, stay away from OLED. The text clarity on some of those subpixel layouts is kinda blurry for reading long essays and that burn-in anxiety will absolutely eat at you every time you leave a Word doc open for too long. You hit the nail on the head with HDR400 tho. It is basically just a marketing sticker and doesnt actually give you that high-contrast look you want for Cyberpunk. Since you have a 5070 Ti, you really want something with local dimming to actually see those neon lights pop against dark alleys. I highly recommend looking at Mini-LED as the middle ground. The AOC Gaming Q27G3XMN 27-inch Mini-LED 1440p 180Hz is a total beast for the price. It has 336 dimming zones and is rated for HDR1000, so the blacks actually look black, not grey like that LG IPS. It is 180Hz instead of 240Hz, but ngl you probably wont notice the difference in Valorant as much as you will notice the insane colors in Monster Hunter. Another solid option if you can find stock is the Cooler Master Tempest GP27Q 27-inch 1440p 165Hz Mini-LED. It uses a quantum dot layer so the colors are super punchy. These panels give you most of the OLED punch without the risk of ruining your screen with static text while studying.

Jumping in here because im literally in the exact same boat and honestly its ridiculous. I have been trying to piece together a new setup and every single monitor choice feels like a massive trap lately. You spend all this money on a high end card and then the monitor market just lets you down.

  • The price gouging for basic features like decent local dimming is a total scam imo.
  • I am also totally terrified of pulling the trigger on anything because you either risk burn in or get stuck with that glowy IPS mess that ruins dark games like Elden Ring.
  • It feels like companies are just ignoring everyone who isnt a millionaire or a pro gamer. I would suggest being really careful because it feels like a minefield out there. It drives me crazy that we have to compromise so much even with a 500 budget... honestly makes me want to just give up on the whole DIY upgrade for a bit.
