I'm finally pulling the trigger on an AM5 build with the Ryzen 5 7600! I want to keep the motherboard cost down without sacrificing stability or decent VRMs. I’ve been looking at B650 boards, but there are so many options. Do I really need Wi-Fi 6E, or should I stick to a basic Micro-ATX? What's the best value board that won't break the bank?

Honestly, if you wanna save cash, the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 is actually the GOAT for budget builds right now. It's super basic but the VRMs are surprisingly solid for that chip. You don't really need Wi-Fi 6E unless ur router is right there, but yeah... if you do need wireless, the MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI is a great alternative. Anyway, Micro-ATX is definitely the move to keep costs down lol.

Congrats on finally making the jump to AM5!! The Ryzen 5 7600 is such a sweet spot for gaming right now, so good choice there. Tbh you really dont need to spend a fortune on a motherboard for that chip since it doesnt pull much power anyway.

If you want the absolute best bang for your buck, you gotta look at the ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2. Its basically the budget king right now... like, the VRMs are surprisingly beefy for such a cheap board (it can even handle a 7950X if u ever upgrade lol). The only downside is it only has two RAM slots, but for a gaming rig, 32GB is usually plenty anyway.

Now, about the Wi-Fi... yeah, if youre gonna be wired into the router anyway, just save the cash and go basic Micro-ATX. But if you need wireless, I’d suggest the MSI PRO B650M-A WIFI. Its a bit more expensive but it’s super solid and has all the features most people actually need.

Basically, dont overthink it too much! Micro-ATX is totally fine for 99% of builds and it fits in almost any case. Just grab that ASRock board and put the extra money toward a better GPU or more storage... thats what I’d do at least. Good luck with the build, ur gonna love the performance jump!!

Yeah, those guys nailed the ASRock suggestion, but if u want some extra resources, u gotta check out the Hardware Unboxed B650 roundup on YouTube. It's basically the holy grail for checking VRM temps and making sure u aren't buying a lemon!! Tbh, I also use the PCPartPicker filtering tool like crazy to find the best daily deals. If ur still on the fence about Wi-Fi, maybe look at the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2. It’s a bit more than a basic board but the features are solid. Also, the B650 Google Spreadsheet on the r/buildapc subreddit is sooo helpful for comparing every single port and header. Anyway... just cross-reference those benchmarks and u'll be golden. Good luck with the build!!

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

^ This. Also, honestly its ridiculous trying to find a solid board without feeling like youre getting ripped off. Im dealing with the exact same headache right now for a secondary build and it is just exhausting.

  • Market pricing is basically a scam at this point. Transitioning to AM5 shouldnt require such a massive premium for entry-level components that honestly feel like they were rushed to market.
  • Compatibility concerns are significant and ongoing. Unfortunately, the platform is plagued by memory training delays and BIOS instability that manufacturers seem to be ignoring.
  • Component quality is not as good as expected. I have seen far too many issues with coil whine and mediocre power delivery on boards that cost double what they should. It really feels like companies dont care about the consumer experience anymore. Its frustrating to see the lack of polish in this generation while they keep hiking up the costs.
