Choosing the best motherboard for an older RTX 3090 Ti.

I recently picked up a used RTX 3090 Ti and need a solid motherboard to handle its power draw. Since it's a PCIe 4.0 beast, I’m worried about VRM quality and having enough space for its massive cooler. Should I go with a high-end Z690 or look at newer chipsets? What board offers the best stability for this specific card?

Seconding the recommendation above. VRM safety is no joke with that card... it seriously pulls massive power spikes. I've been super happy with the stability on my MSI MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi Gaming Motherboard.

- **Option A: Z790 Carbon** vs **Option B: Z690 Hero**
- **Pros:** Better PCIe 5.0 support and beefier 19+1+1 power phases for safety.
- **Cons:** Z790 is pricier than older stock tho.

Honestly, I'd go Z790 just for the peace of mind. gl!

sooo i just found this thread and honestly, i feel u on the 3090 Ti struggle. it's a total power hog and basically a space heater for ur room lol. since ur looking for stability without spending a literal fortune on those "enthusiast" boards like the hero, i've had massive success with the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WiFi DDR4. i've been running my rig with one for a year and i'm super satisfied with how it handles the transient power spikes from that gpu.

For ur situation, here's what I recommend: if ur looking to save some cash, dont sleep on the Z690 chipsets. honestly, the jump to Z790 isnt that big for a 3090 Ti unless u absolutely need more PCIe 5.0 lanes for future m.2 drives. basically, the tomahawk has a 16+1+1 power phase design that stays cool even when the card is pulling 450W+. plus, it actually has decent spacing for the triple-slot coolers so ur not choking the intake fans right against the bottom of the case or other pcie cards.

another solid budget-friendly beast is the Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE AX. the VRM heatsinks are huge and it works well for heavy loads without thermal throttling. just double check ur case clearance cuz these boards are wide! definitely go for a board with a reinforced PCIe slot tho, cuz that card is heavy enough to cause some serious sag over time.

TL;DR: Skip the $600 boards and grab a high-quality Z690 like the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WiFi or Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE AX. they offer the same stability for way less money. gl with the build!! 👍

Basically, go for the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero cuz the VRMs are absolute tanks for that power-hungry card. Just make sure your case fits a 4-slot monster... ngl it's huge! gl

Can vouch for this

sooo i remember when i first started looking at high-end builds, i was literally overwhelmed by all the choices! but honestly, before you decide between those brands, what case are you planning to use?? cuz the 3090 Ti is actually massive lol. check out the "PC Part Picker" builder tool iirc, it's pretty great for checking if your board and GPU will actually fit together without hitting the drive cages or anything!! gl
