Looking for the best motherboard pairing for Ryzen 7 9850X3D.

In my experience, you definitely wanna aim for an X870E for that 9850X3D if you're serious about PCIe 5.0 and VRM overhead.

1. ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi vs MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi.
2. The ASUS has a beastly 18+2+2 power stage setup which is basically overkill but keeps things super cool under load.
3. MSI is great too, but I prefer the ASUS BIOS for tweaking PBO.

Honestly, high-end B850 is okay, but for future-proofing your storage, X870E is the play. gl!

So I actually disagree a bit with the idea that you need to spend a ton on a premium X870E just to be safe. Tbh, if you’re building it yourself and just want it to work well, I think some of these super high-end boards are overkill for most of us. I'm pretty new to this but I’ve been looking at the ASRock X870 Pro RS because it still has that PCIe 5.0 slot you want but it’s way more affordable than the ROG stuff. Or maybe even something like the Gigabyte B850 AORUS ELITE AX? Like, do the VRMs really matter that much if you aren't doing crazy overclocking? I feel like as long as you've got decent fans in your case and you're careful with the install, you're fine. I just don't see the point in paying for features I'll never touch. Does the 9850X3D even run that hot? I thought the X3D chips were usually pretty efficient anyway.

Quick question - what kind of power supply are you planning to use with this? Honestly, I'm kinda paranoid about safety after having a VRM literally overheat on an old build... it was a mess. Before I suggest something like the GIGABYTE X870E AORUS MASTER, I really wanna make sure your PSU can handle the transient spikes.
