Buying a 14900K for my video editing rig next week and cant decide on a board. I looked at the Asus Dark Hero but some people say the vrms get too hot for long 4k exports, while the MSI Godlike is just stupidly expensive. What is the best high-end motherboard for the Intel i9-14900K that actually handles heavy workloads?
I used to think higher price meant better stability, but I went through a whole ordeal before finding the ASRock Z790 Taichi Lite DDR5. Like someone mentioned, you want something that handles heavy workloads without the crazy tax. Tbh, this board has the same insane VRMs as the flagship version but for way less. My long 4k exports have been totally stable and my wallet is happier.
Quick reply while I have a sec. Ngl the 14900K is a beast and needs something that wont throttle under pressure. I looked at these:
The Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Master X E-ATX DDR5 is the best choice for absolute reliability! Its 20+1+2 phase power design is amazing and ensures total stability during heavy rendering. Love how the massive fins-array heatsinks keep everything cool even under 100% load. Safety is priority when youre exporting 4k all day, and this board handles that stress like a champ! Its a fantastic pick for your rig.
Late to this, but you gotta be careful because my cousin had a board catch fire while exporting 4K.
Like someone mentioned, VRM stability is huge for 14K renders. In my experience, the ASUS ProArt Z790-Creator WiFi ATX DDR5 is the smartest pick for video work.
I've been very satisfied with using a more practical mid-range board for my build. The power delivery is sufficient for 4k exports and I've had no complaints about thermal stability during heavy workloads. Thinking about hardware always reminds me of my first editing gig.
