I’m finally pulling the trigger on a Ryzen 7 9700X build, but I'm stuck on the motherboard. I want something mid-range with solid VRMs and PCIe 5.0 support for future-proofing, without paying for crazy enthusiast features I won't use. Which B650 or X670 boards currently offer the best balance of performance and price?
Similar situation here - I was stuck between the ASRock B650E Taichi Lite and the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi. the Taichi is basically a tank with overkill VRMs, which made me feel way safer about reliability. The ASUS has nice features but tbh I heard about some BIOS stability bugs that sketched me out. I highkey went with the ASRock just for the peace of mind that it wouldnt fail on me later

Honestly, I went through this last year. Gen5 is great but it basically adds a huge premium. I was super cautious about overspending on flashy features, so I finally found the ASRock X670E PG Lightning for around $200. It’s been rock solid and feels like a safe bet for a 9700X build. Just update the BIOS first though—or ask a pro—you know?
This^ Also wanted to add that B650E is 100% the sweet spot for a DIY build. Honestly, if you wanna save cash but still get Gen5 support, just get basically any B650E board from ASRock or MSI.
- super easy BIOS for DIYers
- rock solid VRMs
- great long-term value
Ive been so happy with my setup and have no complaints at all. gl with the build! lol
Similar situation here - I spent way too long comparing boards but finally realized B650E is kinda the sweet spot. I ended up with the Gigabyte B650E AORUS ELITE X AX ICE and it's been rock solid. Quick tip: Stick to B650E to get Gen5 support without the X670 price bloat... just make sure it has BIOS flashback for that 9700X so you don't get stuck! gl

Saw this earlier but just now responding... honestly, I've been super happy with the ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi. It's basically the best value for PCIe 5.0 without the X670 price tag—VRMs are rock solid for that 9700X. If u want better aesthetics, the Gigabyte B650E AORUS ELITE X AX is great but slightly pricier. Both boards handle Gen5 well without overpaying for features u wont use. gl!
Honestly, I feel u on being stuck cuz finding that balance is basically impossible lately. I started my 9700X build with the ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi and it was... honestly kinda disappointing. I had issues with the BIOS and the boot times were seriously painful, plus it was way too expensive for what it offered. Unfortunately, it just didnt live up to the hype for me.
Sooo I swapped to the ASRock B650E Steel Legend WiFi and it's highkey the best mid-range choice right now. It usually goes for around $200 and actually has:
* Full PCIe 5.0 support (both x16 and M.2)
* Really solid VRMs that stay cool under load
* Way better boot times than my last board
Basically, dont overpay for X670 if you dont need the extra USB ports. This ASRock board is the sweet spot for budget-conscious builders who still want future-proof features. gl with the build!
Any updates on this?
