I’m finally starting my first SFF build in a Terra case, but I’m having a hard time picking the right AM5 mini-ITX board. Since I'm going with a Ryzen 7000 series chip, I want something with solid VRMs and at least two M.2 slots for storage expansion. I’ve looked at the ASUS ROG Strix and the ASRock Lightning, but the price gap is huge and I'm worried about coil whine or BIOS stability issues I've read about. Has anyone here had good long-term success with a specific B650 or X670E ITX board? I just want something reliable that won't overheat in a tight space. Which board offers the best balance of features and thermals for the price right now?

Honestly, the Gigabyte B650I AORUS ULTRA is actually the SWEET spot for a Terra build. It’s got three M.2 slots for all ur storage stuff and the VRMs stay cool as heck. I’ve had zero issues with BIOS stability or annoying coil whine things like some other boards. It’s way more reasonable than the X670E stuff and just works. Definitely check it out if ur worried about overheating lol

tbh, if ur building in a Terra, you gotta look at the ASRock B650I Lightning WiFi. It’s pretty much the go-to recommendation lately because it’s way cheaper than the ASUS and actually performs like a beast. It’s got those two M.2 slots and solid VRMs that won’t break a sweat with a Ryzen 7000. I mean... the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi is "premium," but the coil whine is such a gamble lol. Wait no, I should mention the MSI MPG B650I Edge WiFi too, but it has that weird daughterboard thing that can be kinda annoying for cable management. The ASRock is just way more straightforward and stays pretty cool. I’ve had way less headache with their BIOS updates compared to other brands this time around. It's just a solid choice for a first SFF build!!

Totally agree with the Gigabyte call, it’s honestly a beast for the price. Having 3 M.2 slots in an ITX build is actually insane, especially since trying to fit SATA cables in the Terra is a literal nightmare lol. I’ve noticed that people worry way too much about the coil whine thing... it’s realy just luck of the draw sometimes? But yeah, that board is pretty much the gold standard for stability right now.

One thing I’d add is to check the height of the M.2 heatsinks!! Some of these AM5 boards have super tall coolers that might bump into ur CPU fan if you’re using a bigger low-profile air cooler. It’s those tiny details that'll get ya in a SFF build. Definitely stick with B650 tho, the X670E tax is just not worth it for 99% of people.
