im just so sick of these conflicting reviews online. i need to get my workstation build finished by this weekend for a project but im stuck between the asus dark hero and the msi ace.
my budget is strictly under $650 so which one handles the 14900k overclocking better without overheating?
Regarding what #3 said about the Nova, I totally agree that value is key, but be careful with those power limits. The 14900K is a beast and you really dont want a board that might flake out under heavy loads.
I love my ASRock Z790 Nova WiFi DDR5!
Look, basically all Z790s are overpriced now, its disappointing. If you gotta choose, the MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX DDR5 handles the 14900K better because of that massive 24-phase VRM.
Honestly, its kind of disappointing how much these high-end boards cost just to get stable power for a chip like the 14900K. I've had issues with the VRM cooling on some of the earlier Z790 models, and unfortunately, the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Dark Hero DDR5 is a bit overpriced for what you actually get. Its got a 20+1 power stage setup which is decent, but I expected much better thermals during heavy stress tests considering the premium price tag. The MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX DDR5 is technically a monster with its 24+1+2 phase design, and it usually stays cooler than the ASUS under load, but MSI's BIOS can be a bit of a headache to navigate for fine-tuning. If you want the best stability under that $650 limit, I'd actually look at the Gigabyte Z790 AORUS MASTER X DDR5. It handles the power draw like a champ and the 10GbE is a huge bonus for workstation tasks. Dont worry tho, you'll definitely get that build done by the weekend! Let me know if you need more help with the voltage offsets or memory tuning once you decide.
Saw this earlier. Market fluctuates but try these:
> i need to get my workstation build finished by this weekend for a project Wait, what cooling setup are you using for this?! A 14900K is so scary to overclock if you dont have a massive cooler. To add to the point above: honestly, there is an amazing video on YouTube that compares these boards. Just search for Z790 VRM rankings and it is basically the first result. I am way too scared to do DIY stuff myself though!
