ive built plenty of rigs but this whiteout theme for my sisters pc is stressing me out. my logic was the b650-a but the pcb is actually grey?
i need a true white board under 250 for am5. am i missing some mid-range hidden gem that isnt just silver?...
Regarding what #2 said about "stumbled onto this while looking for parts for..." - i understand the drive for a whiteout build, but i disagree slightly with the need for a pure white PCB. I've been very satisfied with boards that utilize silver heatsinks to achieve the same effect. Practically speaking, once the GPU and air cooler are installed, the PCB color becomes a minor detail that you wont even notice. I've found these budget-friendly alternatives work well for mid-range builds:
coming back to this cuz i love white builds! quick question tho, is she using a full tower or a smaller case? the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi Micro ATX is totally solid and looks so clean with that white pattern pcb! the MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI AM5 DDR5 is another fantastic option with huge heatsinks tho the pcb is darker. i always worry about parts failing so these brands are amazing for that!!
Be careful with those ROG boards, theyre definitely grey. You might want to consider the Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX ICE AM5 ATX because it actually has a white PCB and stays under budget.
stumbled onto this while looking for parts for my own upgrade and i totally get the stress... i spent weeks worrying about the same thing. if you want that whiteout look without spending a fortune you might want to consider the ASRock B650 Steel Legend WiFi AM5 ATX. it has this white and grey digital camo pattern on the pcb which is much better than just a plain grey or black board showing through. i would suggest being careful with the lighting though... if you use cool white leds it looks amazing but warm lights make the silver parts look kinda yellow. just a heads up, make sure to check your ram clearance if youre using a big air cooler bc those heatsinks are pretty tall. i always worry about the vrms on mid range boards but this one is actually solid for a 7000 or 8000 series chip. another option you could look into is the MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI AM5 ATX although its got a bit more silver than the asrock one. just be careful with msi bios updates, sometimes they can be a bit tricky to navigate so definitely read the manual twice. ngl am5 is still a bit weird with boot times so dont panic if it takes a minute to start up the first time... its usually just the memory training. basically just stay away from the cheap prime boards, ive heard they can run pretty hot and the white is more like a sad light grey anyway.
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
If youre trying to save some cash for her other parts, consider these points:
