What motherboard should I buy for Intel Core Ultra 5 245K?

I’m finally planning my build around the new Intel Core Ultra 5 245K, but I’m a bit torn on which Z890 motherboard to pair with it. Since this chip uses the new LGA 1851 socket, I want to make sure I pick a board that handles the power delivery well without overspending on features I don't need. I’m mainly looking for something with solid VRMs for some light overclocking and at least three M.2 slots for my storage. I’ve been looking at a few mid-range options, but the price gaps are confusing. Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable Z890 board that offers the best bang for your buck for this specific CPU?

Sooo I was in your exact shoes like two weeks ago when I started my 245K build!! Honestly, choosing a Z890 board is kinda stressful because the prices are literally all over the place. I ended up grabbing the MSI Z890 GAMING PLUS WIFI and it's been rock solid for me. It's basically the sweet spot for a mid-range build since it has a 14+1+1+1 power phase setup which is more than enough for some light overclocking on an Ultra 5 without things getting toasty. Plus, you get four M.2 slots so it hits your storage requirement easily!!

If you want something that feels a bit more premium tho, the ASUS Prime Z890-P WIFI is another decent option. It's slightly more expensive usually, but the BIOS is super easy to navigate iirc. Personally, I think the MSI offers better bang for your buck right now. Just dont overspend on the high-end ROG or Godlike boards, you totally dont need them for a 245K lol. Honestly I spent a whole weekend looking at Z890 specs because I refuse to pay a shop to build my rig anymore. Going DIY is the way to go because u actually learn where the money goes instead of paying for some professional service that just tosses in whatever board they have a deal on. I looked into the ASRock Z890 Pro RS WiFi and it seems like a solid choice for the 245K if u want value. Here is why I think the DIY approach helps when picking boards:

You can check the actual VRM heatsink mass which is huge for these new chips

It lets u verify the M.2 layout so ur top slot doesnt steal lanes from the GPU

Saving on labor means u can actually afford a decent board instead of the cheapest entry level junk Doing it yourself is a bit scary with the new socket pins tho, but it basically saves u like a hundred bucks. I am still a bit nervous about the power limits on some of these cheaper Z890s but for a 245K u dont need a 20 phase monster. Just make sure the bios is easy to flash urself or u might have issues with early microcode stuff.
