Hey everyone! I'm finally planning my jump to the AM5 platform, likely pairing it with a Ryzen 5 7600 to keep costs down while still getting onto the latest socket. I've been browsing through dozens of B650 motherboards, but the price range is honestly all over the place and it is getting a bit confusing. Some boards are priced almost like high-end X670s, while others look a bit too stripped-down to be reliable for the long haul.
I really want something that hits that sweet spot of price versus features. My main requirements are solid enough VRMs so I have a decent upgrade path for future CPUs, at least two M.2 slots for storage, and preferably built-in Wi-Fi since I can cannot easily run an ethernet cable to my desk. I've been looking at options like the MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi and the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi, but I am worried about missing out on a better deal or a more reliable brand.
Are there any specific boards you guys swear by for a budget-conscious build that do not compromise too much on boot times or VRM cooling? If you were building a mid-range gaming PC today, which B650 board would you pick to get the most bang for your buck while staying under $160?
So basically the consensus is that while the MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi is a decent starter, those long boot times are a real mood killer. From a market perspective, brand competition in the B650 space is actually pretty intense right now! Most manufacturers are basically choosing between better VRMs or more USB ports to keep costs under that $160 mark. I think you gotta understand why VRMs matter so much for the long haul. Better power stages mean the board stays cool even when youre pushing a beefier CPU later on. That is why the ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi keeps coming up... it literally has better power delivery than most boards in its class. If you wanna look at another option, the Gigabyte B650M GAMING PLUS WIFI is also amazing value! It has solid heatsinks and honestly, Gigabyte has been killing it with BIOS boot speeds lately. Either of these will highkey handle a future upgrade way better than the stripped-down models. NGL, I'd probably go with the ASRock tho. GL with the build!!
Late to the party but quick question - what case are you using? I'm happy with ASRock B650M Pro RS WiFi VRMs, but I'd worry about the board size and messy cable reach!
Ok so, I totally feel u on the AM5 pricing situation... it is literally all over the place. Tbh I had some issues with the MSI PRO B650M-A WiFi in a recent build where the boot times were unfortunately just not as good as expected, even after BIOS updates. It was honestly such a letdown compared to what I am used to. For ur situation, here is what I recommend:
Seconding the recommendation above! Just watch out for those budget boards with inadequate VRM thermal solutions tbh. Theyll literally throttle if you upgrade to a high-TDP chip later... avoid stripped-down models! GL
Would love to know this too
