I'm planning a build around the new Intel Core Ultra 7 265K and want to make sure I pick a motherboard that can actually handle its power demands without breaking a sweat. Since these chips can be quite power-hungry under load, I’m looking for a board with a robust VRM setup and excellent thermal cooling for the power phases. I’m leaning towards an ATX Z890 board, but I'm overwhelmed by the different power stage ratings and heatsink designs. I don't plan on extreme liquid nitrogen overclocking, but I do want rock-solid stability for long rendering sessions. Which Z890 boards currently offer the best VRM efficiency and cooling for the price? Any specific models you'd recommend for this chip?

Quick question - what's your actual budget range for the board?? Curious about one thing: are you sticking to air cooling or going with a beefy AIO, cuz that'll totally change which VRM heatsink designs work best for those long renders. Ngl, you can get AMAZING power delivery on something like the MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk WiFi for way less than the flagship stuff lol.

Curious about one thing: are you planning on running that chip at its default power limits or are you gonna unlock everything in the BIOS? Honestly, I had some issues with thermal throttling on an older high-end board cuz the VRM heatsinks were more about looks than actual airflow, and it was super disappointing. Before I suggest something like the ASRock Z890 Taichi or the MSI MPG Z890 Carbon WIFI, I gotta know if your case has decent top exhaust for those long renders?

For your situation, I've found that you basically don't need to spend $700+ to get solid power delivery. I'm using the ASRock Z890 Taichi right now and it's honestly a beast for the price. The VRMs stay super cool even during long renders, and it's got like 20+1+2 power phases which is more than enough for a 265K. If you wanna save a bit more, the MSI MAG Z890 Tomahawk WiFi is another decent option... it's super reliable and the heatsinks are actually massive. gl!

Seconding the recommendation above for the Taichi, it's a beast. Honestly though, you don't gotta overspend because mid-range Z890s are actually insane now. I had issues with an older high-end board's VRM pads being trash, so I'm picky too, but ASRock Z890 Taichi or the MSI MPG Z890 Carbon WIFI are basically overkill for a 265K. Just make sure your case has decent airflow over those heatsinks during your renders, right? Plus, spending less on the board lets you grab better RAM or whatever.
