I'm setting up a dedicated machine to host a heavily modded Minecraft server for about 15 friends. I'm torn between high-frequency DDR4 or jumping to DDR6, and whether CAS latency matters much for tick rates. Any specific brands or speeds you’d recommend to prevent lag? What's the sweet spot for stability?

In my experience, you definitely don't need DDR6 (which basically isn't a thing for server RAM yet anyway lol). I've been running servers for like 7 years and high-speed DDR4 is the sweet spot cuz it's SO cheap right now.
* **DDR4 3200MHz:** Basically the gold standard. I'm super satisfied with Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz C16. It's usually under $70 and handles 15+ people no problem.
* **DDR4 3600MHz:** If your CPU supports it, G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz C16 is a tiny bit faster for tick rates, but the price jump is barely worth it tbh.
Honestly, just grab 32GB of the Corsair and you'll be happy. Minecraft cares way more about raw clock speed than CAS latency, so don't overthink it... basically just get the most GB for your buck! gl!

Respectfully, I'd suggest Kingston Server Premier 32GB DDR4 3200MHz ECC Unbuffered DIMM instead. Market research shows ECC is way more reliable for 24/7 modded servers than standard gaming sticks.

Seconding the recommendation above. DDR6 is basically just for GPUs right now, so dont sweat that. For a modded server, CAS latency ACTUALLY matters cuz it affects those frame-time stutters and tick rates. I've had great luck with Crucial Ballistix 32GB DDR4 3600MHz CL16—that CL16 timing is the real sweet spot for stability. If u want even lower latency, G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB DDR4 3600MHz CL14 is literally top-tier, tho it's a bit pricier. Stick to 3600MHz if ur CPU handles it!

Quick question - how many mods are we talking about here?? Like is this a kitchen-sink pack with 300+ mods or something more lightweight? I mean, I'm pretty new to hosting myself but I've been super happy with my setup so far.
Before I give advice on the specific sticks, you gotta consider the budget for the whole build because modded servers eat RAM for breakfast lol. Honestly, I found that you dont need to overspend on the flashiest brands to get zero lag.
* Focus on capacity over raw speed if the mod count is huge.
* Look for deals on TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan Z 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16—it's basically the best value I've found.
* Stick with DDR4 since DDR5/6 is gonna require a way more expensive motherboard and CPU.
I'm satisfied with how my budget build handles things, but yeah, lmk about those mod counts so I can see if 32GB is actually enough for 15 people! Cheers
