Best value DDR4 RAM for Intel Core i5-13400F budget builds?

I'm currently putting together a mid-range gaming rig around the Intel Core i5-13400F, and I’ve decided to stick with a DDR4 motherboard to save some cash. However, I’m a bit overwhelmed by the options and want to find that 'sweet spot' for performance without overspending. I'm looking for a 16GB or 32GB kit that won't bottleneck the CPU, specifically wondering if 3200MHz CL16 is enough or if it's worth stepping up to 3600MHz for this specific chip. Does anyone have recommendations for reliable, low-latency kits that offer the best bang for your buck right now? Which brands or specific models are you guys using for your 13th-gen budget builds?

yo! honestly i was in the same boat when i built my first rig last year!! basically i went with a 3200MHz kit cuz it was cheaper and it works AMAZINGLY well with the chip tbh... literally no issues at all tho!

Hey, just saw this. Before you pull the trigger, which motherboard chipset are you using? If it is a budget H610, you are likely capped at 3200MHz anyway, so buying faster RAM would just be a waste of money. Also, worth checking if your specific 13400F can handle 3600MHz in Gear 1 mode, as some locked 13th gen chips struggle with the System Agent voltage, which might actually give you worse latency than a solid 3200MHz kit. Quick tip: Definitely go for 32GB if you can swing it. 16GB is becoming the bare minimum these days and you will definitely appreciate the extra headroom for multitasking in a year or two. I have had great luck with the TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan Z 32GB DDR4 3600MHz CL18 for budget builds, or the Kingston FURY Renegade 32GB 3600MHz CL16 DDR4 if you want tighter timings for the long haul. Both are super reliable in my experience.

Respectfully, I'd consider another option because sticking to 3200MHz might actually leave some performance on the table for a 13th-gen build. In my experience over the years, the price gap between 3200 and 3600 is basically non-existent now, so why not get the extra speed??

I've tried many kits, and here's how I see it:

1. G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 - This is the sweet spot. The CL16 timing is super snappy and it's literally built for stability. It's what I'd go with to be safe.
2. Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 - If you want 32GB, this is a solid budget pick. It's low-profile too, which helps if you're worried about cooler clearance.

Honestly, I'm kinda cautious about the 13400F with slower RAM... the 3600MHz kit just feels smoother for 1% lows. Just my two cents tho! gl with the build
