Hey everyone! I’m currently putting together a Ryzen 7 5800X build and I’m a bit stuck on picking the right RAM. I’ve read in a few places that 3600MHz CL16 is the 'goldilocks zone' for Zen 3 because it matches the 1800MHz Infinity Fabric clock perfectly at a 1:1 ratio. I’m curious if it's worth spending the extra premium over a standard 3200MHz kit, or if I should even try pushing for 4000MHz. I want solid gaming performance without having to spend hours manually tweaking sub-timings or worrying about stability. For those running a 5000-series chip, is 3600MHz CL16 still the best balance of price and performance, or is there a better option I’m missing?
Tbh, 3600MHz CL16 is definitely the goldilocks zone!! It hits that 1:1 ratio perfectly so you dont have to mess with complicated bios stuff for hours. 3200 is fine but your missing out on some easy performance tbh. Idk if pushing 4000MHz is worth the headache since it’s gonna be way harder to get stable lol. Stick with 3600, it’s just the best balance for Ryzen 5000 things.
Tbh, 3600MHz CL16 is totally the sweet spot for a 5800X. It really is that goldilocks zone because it keeps the Infinity Fabric at 1800MHz without any drama -- which is basically free performance. Going with 3200MHz is okay if your on a super tight budget, but you're definitely gonna be leaving some frames on the table. And honestly?? Pushing for 4000MHz is a total gamble... most chips struggle to keep that 1:1 ratio anyway and you'll probably end up spending days in the BIOS just to get it stable (at least thats what happened to my buddy). Stick with 3600MHz CL16, it's like the perfect set-and-forget setup for gaming. It's just way easier and worth the tiny premium over the slower stuff lol!!
I totally agree with the other guys, 3600MHz CL16 is 100% the way to go for a 5800X build. It really is that perfect middle ground where you get the most out of your chip without needing a degree in overclocking lol. Like they already said, keeping that 1:1 sync is key for keeping latency low. Tbh, if you're looking for a specific kit that just works, I'd highly recommend the G.Skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 or maybe the Crucial Ballistix 3600 MHz CL16 if you can still find them in stock. Pushing for 4000MHz is a total lottery... some chips just can't handle it and you'll end up with a bunch of system crashes (at least thats what happened to my buddy). Stick with 3600, it's way more stable for daily gaming. Fr.
ngl, I tried to be a hero and push my 5800X build to 4000MHz when I first got it. Big mistake lol!! I spent like three days chasing stability and just ended up with constant crashes... it was such a headache. I finally just dropped back to 3600MHz and it’s been rock solid ever since. Honestly, your probably not gonna notice the difference in games anyway, so I’m glad I stopped tinkering!!
Noted!
Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
