So I finally swapped my old 3700X for the 5800X3D because I heard it's the king for gaming on AM4 but my current G.Skill kit is acting up. It's only 3000mhz CL16 anyway so its definitely time for an upgrade. I've been building PCs since the FX days but this V-cache thing is kinda throwing me for a loop with the ram speeds. I know 3600 cl16 is usually the sweet spot for the infinity fabric but I'm seeing people say it doesn't matter as much because of the massive L3 cache? I've got about $120 to spend and I'm looking to buy this weekend. Is it worth trying to push for a 4000mhz kit or is that just gonna be a headache to get stable with the fclk?
Regarding what #1 said about "Honestly, just stick with 3600mhz. I been running...", I totally agree! Pushing past 1800mhz on the FCLK is a total lottery and usually not worth the stress. Since the 5800X3D has that massive V-cache, it actually cares way more about low latency (CL) than raw frequency anyway. Youll get amazing results if you focus on tight subtimings instead of chasing 4000mhz! If you wanna dive deep, definitely check out the Ryzen DRAM Calculator by 1usmus... its a lifesaver for tuning. Here are some fantastic kits that fit your budget:
FCLK instability is a total nightmare tbh. Instead of paying for a pro service to tune it, just DIY with Kingston FURY Renegade 32GB DDR4 3600MHz CL16. It is a decent option.
Building on the earlier suggestion, sticking to 3600MHz is totally the smartest move for your wallet and sanity! I love how stable these kits are without messing with weird settings. You can save so much money and still get amazing results.
Honestly, just stick with 3600mhz. I been running that speed on my 5800X3D for a while now and i am super satisfied with how it handles everything. Trying to hit 4000mhz on AM4 is basically a total headache tbh. Just grab some 3600 speed stuff from Corsair and you'll be happy. The cache really does the heavy lifting so you wont even notice much difference...
