I'm currently putting together a parts list for a new build centered around the upcoming RTX 5070 Ti, and I really want to make sure I’m not bottlenecking the system with the wrong memory. I’ve decided on a 32GB kit (2x16GB) to keep things smooth for 1440p gaming and some light video editing, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the current DDR5 options. I'm planning to use a mid-to-high-end Z890 or X870 motherboard, so I'm looking for something that hits that sweet spot between performance and stability.
I’ve been looking at kits with speeds around 6000MHz or 6400MHz, but I’m curious if it’s worth pushing for lower CAS latency, like CL30, specifically to keep up with the 50-series architecture. I also need to keep clearance in mind since I'm planning to use a beefy air cooler. Does anyone have specific recommendations for reliable kits that offer good XMP/EXPO stability without breaking the bank? I’m trying to stay under $130 if possible. What 32GB kits are you guys eyeing for your 50-series builds to get the best frame times?

You definitely wanna stick with CL30 because those lower latencies really help with 1% lows, especially at 1440p where the CPU still does a lot of heavy lifting. I mean, 6400MHz is cool and all, but it can be a literal headache to get stable on some BIOS versions without bumping voltages.
Here's why I'd go this route:
* Low profile: These are only 33mm tall, so they'll fit under basically any beefy air cooler without hitting the fans.
* Sweet spot: 6000MT/s CL30 is the performance peak for most current controllers.

Since you mentioned *clearance* is a big deal for that beefy air cooler, I'd suggest checking out the Teamgroup T-Force Vulcan DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30-36-36-76. It's super low-profile so it wont hit your fans, and it's usually well under $110. I'm always kinda worried about XMP crashing, so stick to 6000MHz CL30 for the safest bet tbh. I'd actually suggest a different approach - before you lock in those low-profile kits everyone's hyping up. Honestly, are you planning on manual tuning or just toggling EXPO and calling it a day? Also, exactly how many millimeters of clearance does that cooler actually give you??
Looking at the current market research, you basically have three paths:
- Budget-tier brands (like Silicon Power or Lexar): You save like $20, but the heatspreaders can feel cheap and binning is a total lottery tbh.
- Mid-tier (Teamgroup or Kingston): Probably the best value for Hynix chips right now. Great for 6000 CL30 stability without the brand tax.
- Premium (Corsair or G.Skill): Youre paying for the aesthetics and better RMA support, but usually it's the same silicon under the hood.
I've had a different experience where some "low profile" sticks still cramped my cooler fan anyway... soo annoying. I'd lowkey check if you can just slide your fan up a few mm. Might give you way more options than just the two kits mentioned above. Good luck!

I ended up grabbing a low-profile kit because I have a massive air cooler that literally hangs over the RAM slots. Pros: It's only 32mm tall, so it'll fit under basically any cooler on the market. Crucial is basically the house brand for Micron, so stability is top-tier. Cons: CL36 is a tiny bit slower on paper than CL30, but honestly, in 1440p gaming with a 5070 Ti, you're looking at a margin of error difference in actual FPS.
Pros: This hits your CL30 sweet spot perfectly. At 34.9mm, it's still very low profile. Kingston usually uses SK Hynix chips for these, which are the gold standard for DDR5 stability right now.
Cons: Might be a few bucks more than the budget brands, but still stays way under your $130 cap. Personally, Id go with the Kingston kit for the tighter timings if you have those extra 3mm of clearance. It'll definitely help keep those frame times consistent.
