Top tier RAM for Ryzen 7 3700X gaming performance?

Hey everyone! I’m currently putting together a high-end gaming build around the Ryzen 7 3700X and I want to make sure I’m not leaving any performance on the table. I know Zen 2 architecture is pretty sensitive to memory speeds and latency, but I’m seeing a lot of conflicting info on the 'sweet spot.' I’m specifically looking for kits that can hit that 3600MHz CL16 mark or better. Should I be hunting for Samsung B-Die for tight timings, or is that overkill for just gaming? I’m aiming for 32GB total and want something stable with XMP/DOCP. What specific RAM kits would you recommend for the best 1% lows and overall snappiness with this CPU?

Yo! Honestly, 3600MHz CL16 is totally the sweet spot for the 3700X. I mean... going B-Die with G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL14 is peak performance, but it's sooo pricey. For most, Crucial Ballistix 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL16 is legendary for stability. Its reallyyy good for those 1% lows without breaking the bank. Just set DOCP and ur good to go!!

Ngl, I spent way too much time chasing benchmark numbers when I first built my 3700X rig. Tbh, unless you’re trying to break world records, the *real-world* performance gain of B-Die is pretty marginal for just gaming. I eventually swapped to a more budget-friendly kit and honestly couldn't tell the difference in-game, even though the 1% lows felt identical. A couple of pro tips for Zen 2 value:
* Prioritize the 1:1 Infinity Fabric (FCLK) ratio—matching it at 1800MHz is the real secret to system snappiness.
* Look into the Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz or TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan Z 3600MHz. They're usually way cheaper and still use decent Hynix dies that play nice with Ryzen. Basically, grab a solid 3600 kit and don't overthink the timings too much. Most of the 'sweet spot' talk is about diminishing returns anyway (at least that's what worked for me).

Re: "Ngl, I spent way too much time chasing..." - yeah Fable is spot on, chasing those tiny benchmark gains is a massive money pit. Basically, the consensus is that 3600MHz is the sweet spot and anything beyond that for a 3700X is just burning cash for numbers you wont even feel while gaming. Couple things you might want to consider:

  • Be careful with the SOC voltage when you start syncing the FCLK to 1800MHz
  • Make sure to check your mobos QVL list so you dont run into weird stability headaches
  • Make sure your case has decent airflow if you do end up tightening those timings Actually, speaking of airflow, I remember trying to cram a high-end build into this tiny sleeper case I found at a thrift store years ago. I spent like three days dremeling out the drive cages just to fit the fans. Then I realized the side panel wouldnt close because the heat pipes on my cooler stuck out like two inches. I ended up just leaving it open and my cat decided it was the perfect warm bed... almost lost a finger when he swatted at the GPU fans one night. Anyway lol, sorry kinda went off topic there.
