I'm honestly freaking out a bit because I've been reading so many conflicting things about DDR5 for the 7800X3D. Most people say 6000MHz CL30 is the way to go but then i see these benchmarks with 6400 or higher and i dont want to leave performance on the table since i mainly play Tarkov and Flight Sim which are super cpu heavy. I'm building this weekend here in Toronto and my budget is like $160ish max for the kit.

  • no tall heatsinks because I got a Noctua D15 and it's massive
  • must be super stable i dont have the patience for blue screens
  • looking for 32gb total

Is the 6000mhz thing actually a hard rule or should i try for faster...

Honestly, stick with the 6000MHz CL30 advice. I went through the same panic when I built my 7800X3D rig a few months back. I initially tried to push for a higher speed kit but it was just a headache with the memory controller. Ended up grabbing G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 and honestly I couldnt be happier. It fits perfectly under my massive cooler because the heat spreaders are low profile, which you definitely need for that D15. The thing with the 7800X3D is that the 3D V-Cache does a lot of the heavy lifting in games like Tarkov and Flight Sim. You arent really leaving performance on the table by not going to 6400MHz. In fact, trying to hit 6400 often forces the infinity fabric into a 1:2 mode which actually hurts your latency and performance in many cases. I play a ton of MSFS too and the stability has been rock solid since day one. Quick tip: just make sure you update your BIOS to the latest version before you enable the EXPO profile. Early AM5 boards had some voltage issues with SOC, but the new updates fixed that and made the boot times much faster. If you want another low-profile option that works well, check out TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert Overclocking 10L 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30. It is basically the go-to for stability without the flashy RGB or tall fins.

Adding my two cents, unfortunately trying for faster speeds is usually not as good as expected because the AM5 memory controller just isnt stable enough yet. I had issues with random blue screens at 6400MHz. I would check the Buildzoid memory tuning videos before buying anything. Look into the Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB 6000MHz CL30 since it fits under the D15 and stays under budget.

Honestly, I spent way too long looking at sub-timing spreadsheets for my D15 build before realizing stability matters most for things like Tarkov.

  • 6000mhz is the sweet spot for the 1:1 FCLK ratio on AM5 platforms.
  • My Kingston Fury Beast 32GB DDR5 6000MT/s CL30 kit cleared the Noctua fan with room to spare.
  • No complaints here, it was well under the 160 limit at a local shop.

To add to the point above: i disagree that the premium brands are better for this!
