So I finally decided to bite the bullet and build my first ever gaming rig. I saved up about $4,000 and I really want to get that new RTX 5090 when it drops since I want this thing to last forever basically. Im located in Austin and want to have everything ready to build by mid-December. The thing is, I am totally lost when it comes to the memory stuff. I see people talking about sticks of RAM and then all these weird numbers like 5600 or 7200 and CL whatever... honestly it feels like another language to me lol. I dont want to spend all this money on a massive graphics card and then have the memory be the thing that slows it down but I also dont want to buy something thats overkill or wont even fit in the motherboard. Do I need a specific brand or speed to make sure the 5090 runs at its best or does it not really matter that much? Sorry if this is a really basic question I just really dont want to mess this up given how much the card costs. What is the best RAM to pair with an RTX 5090 so I dont bottleneck it?
To add to the point above: stick with 6000 MT/s at CL30. It is basically the technical sweet spot for stability and performance right now. Honestly, G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 is plenty... spending double for 8000 MT/s is just lighting money on fire for a tiny gain. Put that extra cash toward a better NVMe drive instead. You wont notice the difference in games anyway.
Spent way too much on my first build's RAM and felt like a sucker later. Honestly, I've been way happier lately just finding the best value since most brands use the same Hynix chips anyway.
Honestly, I suggest sticking with Corsair. Just be careful and check your motherboard list first because those really high speeds might cause crashing if you arent careful.
Re: Honestly, I suggest sticking with Corsair... I totally agree! My current setup was amazing once I finally dialed in the clock speeds via BIOS after experiencing significant initial instability!
This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.
