Which RAM speed is optimal for an RTX 5080 gaming setup?

I'm currently planning a high-end build centered around the upcoming RTX 5080, and I want to make sure I don't create any unnecessary bottlenecks. Since this card is expected to be a beast, I’m really curious about the 'sweet spot' for DDR5 RAM speeds. I've been eyeing 6000MHz CL30 kits, but I’m seeing some people push for 7200MHz or even higher for these next-gen setups. I’m a bit worried about stability vs. actual performance gains in 4K gaming. Given the power of the 5080, would I see a noticeable difference moving to higher-frequency modules, or is lower latency more important here? What RAM speed and timing configuration would you recommend for this specific GPU?

Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, 6000MHz CL30 is totally the sweet spot. I've been building high-end rigs for over 15 years and I've learned the hard way that chasing those crazy high frequencies like 7200MHz+ usually ends in tears... or at least a lot of blue screens lol.

Unfortunately, once you go past 6000MHz, you're basically fighting the CPU's memory controller more than you're helping the GPU. Since you're gaming at 4K, the bottleneck is almost always gonna be the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 itself, not your RAM speed. Tight timings (low CL) actually matter way more for those 1% lows and overall smoothness than raw MHz. Sooo I've been looking into this a lot cuz I'm also planning a 50-series upgrade and honestly, the safety-first approach is definitely the way to go here. If you're gaming at 4K, the GPU is doing like 95% of the heavy lifting anyway so the difference between 6000MHz and 7200MHz is basically margin of error territory... but the stability risk is real!!

I mean, if you go with something like Crucial Pro Overclocking 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 it's gonna be rock solid and way cheaper than the high-end kits. Option A is sticking with the 6000MHz CL30 sweet spot—it's fast, reliable, and actually works with XMP/EXPO without you having to mess with voltages for three days straight. Option B is chasing 7200MHz+ which might give you like 1-2 extra frames in 1% lows but you'll probably end up with random crashes during a long session which sucks.

Honestly, I spent way too much on a super high-end kit thinking it'd future-proof me for the 50-series, but it was such a headache!! Setting up Corsair Dominator Titanium RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-7200 CL34 was cool for benchmarks, but i kept getting random crashes in Cyberpunk.

I ended up downclocking to 6000MHz anyway cuz the 4K performance difference was literally like 1-2 FPS. If you're looking to save some cash, maybe check out TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30. It's way cheaper and basically performs the same in actual gaming scenarios.
