I’m finally building a high-end rig around the RX 7900 XTX, but I'm torn on the memory. Should I prioritize high speeds like 6400MHz, or is 6000MHz CL30 the sweet spot for stability with this GPU? I want to avoid any bottlenecks while gaming at 4K. What RAM kit would you recommend for the best performance?
Yo! For an RX 7900 XTX build, I'd seriously stick with 6000MHz CL30. I'm running the G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 and it's basically the absolute sweet spot for stability and performance. High speeds like 6400MHz can be a total headache to get stable on AM5, tbh. At 4K, you're mostly GPU bound anyway, so the tighter timings on the 6000 kit will give you amazing results without the crashes. Go for it!!
Not to disagree, but I've had a different experience when it comes to AM5 stability lately. Everyone says 6000MHz is the absolute limit, but honestly, with the newer AGESA BIOS updates, I've seen plenty of builds running 6400MHz without breaking a sweat! If you're pushing a beastly card like the RX 7900 XTX at 4K, you really want to squeeze every bit of frame time consistency out of that CPU.
Unfortunately, I had some issues with G.Skill kits in the past, so I usually point people toward Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6400MHz CL32 or even the Teamgroup T-Force Delta RGB DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL30 if you want to play it safe but get better value. The Corsair kit is killer because you can downclock it to 6200 if your silicon lottery luck is bad, but still keep those tight timings. Just make sure your BIOS is updated right away or it'll be a total nightmare lol. What motherboard are you pairing it with??
Honestly, for a cost-conscious build, just stick with 6000MHz CL30. It's basically the BEST value right now and you wont notice any 4K bottlenecks anyway lol. What's ur budget for the kit tho??
Curious about one thing: what CPU are you pairing this beast with?? Honestly, going too fast on the RAM can *actually* cause some serious stability issues if the memory controller cant handle it.
Basically, I'd suggest:
* Sticking with any reputable brand like Crucial or Kingston
* Prioritizing a kit with high-quality heatspreaders
* Making sure you're updated to the latest BIOS for safety
I always tell people it's better to be safe with 6000MHz than to risk constant blue screens at 6400MHz tho.
