Seriously what budget CPU is actually going to keep up with an RTX 5070 without breaking the bank because I am so done with my current setup.
Right now Im rocking an old Ryzen 3600 and it is just dying on me in everything I try to play. I tried playing Cyberpunk the other day and the stuttering was just unbearable like seriously I was getting like 40fps in the city while my GPU usage was sitting at like 50 percent it makes me want to throw the whole thing out the window. It is so frustrating to spend all that money on a new card just to have it sit there doing nothing while my processor struggles to breathe.
I managed to save up and snag a 5070 for my build here in Chicago but now I have basically zero money left for a high end i7 or i9 or whatever. I really need something that can handle 1440p gaming because thats all I do. My budget is super tight like maybe 200 bucks max since I already blew my savings on the card and I need this fixed before my vacation starts next week or I am gonna lose it.
- has to be under 200 dollars
- preferably something I dont have to buy a whole new motherboard for but I might if its worth it
- just for 1440p gaming
Is there anything out there that wont choke the life out of this card or am I just stuck with a paperweight for now...

I have spent plenty of time analyzing frame time data and that 96MB L3 cache is what actually eliminates the stuttering you are seeing in titles like Cyberpunk. From a technical standpoint, the extra cache reduces the need for the CPU to fetch data from your system memory, which is basically where the 3600 hits a wall when trying to feed a high-end card. You can typically find this chip for around 190 dollars, which fits your budget perfectly. It is a drop-in upgrade for your current AM4 board, so no motherboard swap is required. Just make sure you flash your BIOS to the latest version before installing it or the board wont recognize the new architecture. It handles 1440p effortlessly and wont choke that 5070 like your current setup. Tbh its the only logical technical choice right now.

Listen, being in Chicago you should probably hit up Micro Center, but if you want the safest and most logical path for under 200 bucks, just stay on AM4. No point buying a whole new motherboard and RAM right now when your budget is thin. I've been building for a decade and the smartest move here is definitely the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8-Core 16-Thread Desktop Processor. The reason your 3600 is choking is mostly down to the cache and single-core speed. The 5700X3D has that massive 3D V-Cache which specifically helps with the exact stuttering you're seeing in games like Cyberpunk. It keeps the minimum frame rates high so the 5070 actually has work to do instead of waiting on the CPU. I made a similar jump from a 3000 series chip and it was night and day, honestly. Just a heads up though, you absolutely have to update your BIOS to the latest version before you pull the old chip out or it wont boot. Also, those X3D chips run a little hot, so make sure you have something better than a stock cooler. Even a cheap Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler would be a safe bet if you can squeeze another 35 bucks later.
