honestly so fed up with my old dell g3 its literally sounding like a jet engine and the hinges are starting to crack after only two years... its driving me crazy. so i was thinking about upgrading before classes start next month but my budget is strictly under $1000.

my logic was to find something with at least a rtx 4060 but then i get stuck looking at tgp ratings and thermal reviews and it just feels impossible to find a clear winner. i was looking at the lenovo loq or maybe an asus tuf but i dont want another plastic brick that breaks. what is actually the best bang for your buck right now that wont overheat the second i open a game?

Thinking about your situation... honestly ive been really satisfied with the HP Victus 16 RTX 4060 i7-13700H for a while now. Its usually right at that $950-1000 mark. It stays pretty cool even when you're pushing it, and the build feels way more stable than those old G3 units. The thermal design on the 16-inch version is actually a big step up from the cheaper 15-inch models. The screen is bright enough for school and it doesnt look like a total gamer laptop in class. No complaints about the build quality so far, and the hinge feels way smoother than my last rig... definitely more reliable for carrying around to lectures. TL;DR: Grab the 16-inch Victus. Its a safe, quiet middle ground that wont break the bank.

  • 120W TGP RTX 4060
  • MUX Switch included
  • Much better airflow than the 15-inch

In my experience, the Lenovo LOQ 15.6 RTX 4060 Ryzen 7 7840HS is your best bet under a grand right now. It handles thermals way better than that G3 ever did, tbh.

  • 115W TGP on GPU
  • Dual fans
  • MUX switch The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 RTX 4060 R7 7735HS is another tank. Both beat those old Dell hinges by a mile.

To add to the point above: unfortunately, build quality in this price bracket is rarely as good as expected. I had issues with several chassis that looked great on paper but felt like toys in person. Its a common trap... manufacturers often cut corners on thermal pads or screen color accuracy to hit that sub-1000 mark. Just be cautious with those hinges because most budget builds arent as solid as they seem.
