Im honestly about to lose it trying to pick RAM for my ASUS Z790 Hero build. Been staring at the QVL for hours and it makes zero sense because half those kits arent even in stock anywhere in the US right now. I read that the G.Skill 8000 kits are the best but then a bunch of people on Reddit say 4-slot boards struggle to hit that and I really dont want to spend my whole weekend troubleshooting stability. I have like $250 left for 32GB and I just want the lowest latency possible for gaming. Should I just get a 7200 CL34 kit and hope for the best or is there something better that actually works?
Re: "I spent way too many nights staring at..."
I spent way too many nights staring at blue screens because I tried to push kits the motherboard just couldnt handle. Over the years, Ive learned that chasing those 7200+ speeds on a 4-dimm board like the Hero is usually a recipe for a massive headache. In my experience, staying around 6400 or 6600 is where you actually get the stability you need for daily gaming without the constant crashing. I ended up swapping my high-speed kit for Corsair Dominator Titanium 32GB DDR5 6600MHz CL32 and it has been rock solid since day one. Tbh you wont even notice the difference in FPS between 7200 and 6600, but youll definitely notice when your game closes to desktop every twenty minutes... if you want to play it safe and still get great latency, that kit is a winner. Or maybe look at Kingston Fury Renegade 32GB DDR5 6400MHz CL32 if you want to save a few bucks. Both are way more reliable than those 8000 kits on a daisy chain layout.
honestly i would stay far away from those 8000 kits for a z790 hero. since its a 4-dimm board, you are gonna have a nightmare of a time getting it stable compared to something like an apex... signal integrity just isnt there for those speeds on a daisy chain layout. you might want to consider sticking to the 7200-7600 range where the imc doesnt have to work quite as hard. tbh the difference in gaming is negligible anyway.
Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
